In a candid and revealing interview with Pulse Nigeria, award-winning rapper, actor, and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has once again made it clear that he has absolutely no interest in joining politics or running for public office. The multi-talented entertainer, who recently released his new body of work titled The Feast, explained his reasons for steering clear of the political arena and shared his thoughts on activism, governance, and the state of the nation.

When asked about the possibility of ever becoming a politician, Falz responded with his trademark wit and blunt honesty:
“Politics, ke? No, it’s a big no. What’s my business with politics?” He went further to explain that the qualities needed to be a politician are not traits he possesses—or even desires.

“I can never become a politician. I don’t think I’d ever be able to be one because being one requires some traits that I don’t possess, a lot of negative traits. Even some ‘normal’ traits, like being patient and always being ‘on’, I can’t do it,” Falz said.

Falz has always been vocal about social issues, using his music, social media, and public appearances to advocate for change. He emphasized that his activism is motivated by compassion, not political ambition.

“Compassion, I just care and I cannot afford to witness everything I witness and not say anything and not do anything about it. It’s just the way that I’m built. Nobody is putting fire on my backside and telling me that I must do this or I must do that, it just comes,” he explained.

He also reminded people that not all activists are interested in politics.

“I am not a politician, but I think that everyone should know what they want for themselves and focus on that. There are people that are activists that never really make that transition into politics. Not every activist you see is positioning themselves for political positions,” Falz said.

Falz, who is also a trained lawyer

Falz, who is also a trained lawyer and the son of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), has a long history of standing up for justice. He was a prominent figure during the historic EndSARS protests in 2020, where Nigerian youths demanded an end to police brutality and better governance.

“It was something that had to be done. I felt that we were left with no choice. The EndSARS movement is not new. It had been online for years and every time we complained about those things, nothing was done. So, I thought it was time to take to the streets,” Falz recalled.

His advocacy did not end with EndSARS. He continues to address issues such as police brutality, bad governance, and injustice in his music and public statements.

“I do not just make music, I make sure it has a lot of meaning,” he once said, highlighting how his legal background helps him analyze and address social issues with depth.

Falz is not afraid to criticize the government when necessary. In a recent viral video, he called out Nigeria’s stagnation, especially concerning the persistent electricity crisis.

“Giant of where? The biggest thing today is the issue of electricity, it’s still wild that in 2025 we’re still dealing with ‘up nepa’. Second of all, any small rainfall like this, we have to be sweeping ground. It’s shameful,” he said.

He has also been critical of the current administration.
“Nigeria has experienced more regression than development since President Tinubu took over in 2023. According to him, the past year under Tinubu has been more about hardship than progress,” Falz stated in a separate interview.

Many young Nigerians look up to Falz for his boldness and honesty. Social media is filled with praise for his consistency in speaking out for what is right.

“Falz is a true hero. He leads by example and shows us that you don’t have to be a politician to fight for justice,” said one fan on Twitter.

Some fans wish he would join politics, but most respect his decision to remain an activist and artist.
“He uses his voice and platform to make a difference. That’s real leadership,” another fan commented.

Falz’s stance highlights an important distinction between activism and politics. While both can lead to change, they require different approaches and personalities.

Falz believes that making a difference does not always require a seat in government—sometimes, it is enough to speak out, inspire, and lead by example.

“You don’t need a political office to make a difference—just the courage to speak up for what is right.”
— Inspired by Falz

Falz is a shining example for Nigerian youth. He proves that you can be a voice for change without joining politics. With his music, acting, and activism, Falz is making a real difference in Nigeria.
In his own words:
“Politics is not for me. But I will never stop speaking out for what is right.”
