The All Progressives Congress (APC) is undergoing a leadership change as Ali Bukar Dalori steps in as the acting National Chairman following the resignation of former chairman Abdullahi Ganduje. Dalori called on party leaders and members to remain united and focused on the party’s goals during this period of transition.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the first National Working Committee (NWC) meeting since Ganduje’s departure, Dalori emphasized the need to avoid division within the party. He reminded members that political transitions often bring uncertainty but urged everyone to focus on what unites them.

“Political transitions often create uncertainty, but we must not allow it to breed disunity. We must avoid actions and words that divide us and focus on what binds us, our shared belief in the promise of Nigeria and the future of the APC,” Dalori said.

Dalori assured party members that he would soon present a practical roadmap to guide the APC during the interim period. This plan will address key areas such as party discipline, reconciliation, communication, member mobilisation, and stakeholder engagement.

He explained that his appointment as acting chairman follows the party’s constitution and the directive of President Bola Tinubu. Dalori praised Ganduje’s leadership and wished him a full recovery.

“We are all aware of the significant contributions Dr. Ganduje made during his tenure. Since his assumption of office in August 2023, he has provided our party with experienced leadership, steadfast commitment, and a clear sense of direction,” Dalori said.

A Call for Unity and Transparency

Dalori pledged to lead the party with transparency and unity. He stressed that his appointment is not a personal victory but a responsibility he takes seriously, aware of the challenges ahead and the expectations of millions of APC members and supporters.

“This is a period for consolidation, not conflict. For maturity, not division. And for vision, not personal ambition,” he said.

Dalori also reaffirmed the APC’s full support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the party as the political vehicle to drive Nigeria’s transformation.

“The APC remains the political vehicle to drive this transformation, and we will stand by the President in full loyalty and partnership,” Dalori stated.

Formal Resignation and Appointment

Earlier in the meeting, the National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, formally presented Ganduje’s resignation letter to the National Working Committee.

“On behalf of the party, I presented formally to the NWC the resignation letter of the former chairman, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje,” Basiru said.

He added that Dalori’s appointment as acting chairman was unanimously approved by the committee, in accordance with Article 14 of the APC Constitution.

The Way Forward for APC

The leadership change comes at a critical time for the APC as the party prepares for upcoming elections and continues to implement its policy agenda. Dalori’s focus on unity and discipline is aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and ensuring it remains a strong political force.

Ali Bukar Dalori‘s roadmap will likely include efforts to reconcile any internal differences, improve communication channels within the party, and mobilize grassroots support. His leadership will be crucial in maintaining party cohesion and supporting the government’s goals.

Conclusion

With Ali Bukar Dalori now at the helm as acting National Chairman, the APC is focused on unity and progress. Dalori’s call for maturity, vision, and solidarity reflects the party’s determination to overcome challenges and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda. As the APC navigates this transition, all eyes will be on Dalori’s leadership and the party’s ability to maintain its strength and relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
