In a dramatic move to uphold academic standards, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has taken a firm stand against examination malpractice and poor academic performance. The institution has withdrawn 273 students and expelled six others for serious offenses related to cheating during exams. The decision was made at the 120th meeting of the Academic Board on Thursday, April 17th, at the main campus.
The board, led by Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, reviewed and approved the First Semester results for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
Uredo Omale, the Polytechnic’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, explained in a statement on Monday:
“We are committed to giving every student a conducive environment for learning, but we will not tolerate cheating or laziness. The board’s decision is to protect the integrity of our institution and ensure that only deserving students graduate.”
He noted that while the school has made huge investments in infrastructure and staff training, some students still fail to meet expectations.
The withdrawn students were found to have performed below the required standard, despite all the support provided by the school.
