The entertainment world is abuzz as Ayra Starr, Nigeria’s Afrobeats powerhouse and Mavin Records superstar, takes a bold leap from the music stage to the silver screen. The Grammy-nominated singer, famed for chart-toppers like “Rush” and “Bloody Samaritan,” is set to dazzle global audiences with her acting debut in the highly anticipated Hollywood adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, “Children of Blood and Bone.”

Ayra Starr joins an A-list ensemble that reads like a who’s who of Hollywood royalty: Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis, Golden Globe nominee Idris Elba, and acclaimed star Cynthia Erivo.

The film, which began shooting in South Africa, also features a host of talented African and diaspora actors, including Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lashana Lynch, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and more, making it one of the most anticipated global releases of 2027.

Set in a richly imagined African kingdom, “Children of Blood and Bone” follows the journey of Zélie Adebola, a young girl on a quest to restore magic to her people in the face of brutal oppression.

The story, inspired by West African mythology, has captured the hearts of millions since its debut on the New York Times bestseller list in 2018.

Ayra starr interview with CBS Mornings

In a candid interview with CBS Mornings, Ayra Starr opened up about the challenges and joys of transitioning from music to acting.

“My first movie ever,” she shared. “I’m used to being a singer and being a diva on set, but with this one—in a movie—it’s not about you.

You have to be on set on time. I got used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now—their stamina is impeccable.”

Ayra also revealed her initial shyness about acting:

“I’ve always been shy when it comes to acting, but this is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera and I’m not singing,” she said.

“I learned so much from everybody on set, not even just the greats—even just the actors on set, the 16-year-olds, the 14-year-olds—it was so inspiring just watching them.”

This timeless quote resonates deeply with Ayra Starr’s journey, as she steps out of her comfort zone to chase a new dream. Her story is a testament to the power of courage, discipline, and the relentless pursuit of greatness.

Working alongside industry legends has been a masterclass for Ayra. “Working with actors of that calibre taught me so much. It wasn’t just fun—it was transformational,” she reflected.

The experience has not only expanded her creative horizons but also deepened her appreciation for the craft of acting and the dedication it demands.
