Ulcers are caused by the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, and 3-4 out of 5 people have this bacteria. The bacteria colonizes the stomach lining and causes inflammation and ulcers. Stress can be a factor, but generally it is not a cause of ulcers.
Ulcers are caused mainly by bacteria and stress. The cause of the ulcer is not really known, but it is believed that a Helicobacter pylori infection is what causes the ulcers. Stress can increase the severity of ulcers, so this could be a factor for why your ulcer keeps coming back.
It could be that you have an infection (reflux) or it could be that it’s an autoimmune problem. You need to get tested and see if your stomach acid is low, which can cause ulcers to come back again and again.
The ulcer may be due to stress, or spicy foods which can aggravate the stomach lining.
There are a few reasons why your ulcer may keep coming back and it is important to find out the cause in order to best treat the problem. One possibility is that your ulcer has a bacterial infection that needs antibiotic treatment. Another possibility is that you may have an autoimmune disorder called pernicious anemia and need vitamin B-12 injections.
Ulcers are usually caused by an infection. Stress hormones also cause ulcers and can aggravate or prevent other gastrointestinal issues such as gastritis, acid reflux and GERD.
