1.1 What this policy covers

This Cookie Policy explains how AKEWE MEDIA NIGERIA LIMITED (RC-1681767) ("Akewe", "we", "us" or "our"), operator of the Akewe video platform at akewe.com, uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website, use our applications, watch or upload videos, or otherwise interact with our services (together, the "Platform").

"Cookies" are small text files that a website places on your browser or device. They allow the Platform to recognise your device, remember information about your visit, keep you signed in, and understand how the service is used. Beyond cookies in the strict sense, this policy also covers a range of similar technologies that perform comparable functions, including:

  • Local storage and session storage — browser-based storage that keeps small amounts of data (such as your interface preferences) on your device.
  • Pixels and web beacons — tiny, often invisible images or code snippets embedded in pages or messages that record whether content was loaded or viewed.
  • Software development kits (SDKs) — code included in mobile or embedded experiences that performs measurement and functionality comparable to cookies.
  • Device and connection identifiers — limited technical signals used for security, fraud prevention and to deliver video reliably.

Wherever this policy refers to "cookies", it should be read to include these similar technologies unless the context indicates otherwise.

1.2 Why Akewe uses cookies

As a Nigerian-first video and creator platform, Akewe relies on cookies to deliver a service that is secure, reliable and personal. In broad terms, we use them to:

  • Keep you signed in to your account and channels, and keep your session secure between page loads.
  • Protect the Platform and our community against fraud, abuse, spam and unauthorised access.
  • Remember your choices — such as your light or dark theme, language, region and playback settings — so you do not have to set them again.
  • Measure how the Platform performs, diagnose errors, and understand which features creators and viewers find useful.
  • Where advertising is shown, measure how ads perform, limit how often the same ad is repeated, and support creator monetisation.

We do not use cookies to collect more information than is necessary for these purposes, and we group every cookie into one of the four categories described in the Cookie Categories tab.

1.3 How this policy relates to our Privacy Policy

This Cookie Policy is a focused companion to our Privacy Policy. It explains the specific technologies we place on your device and the choices you have over them.

Where cookies collect information that relates to an identified or identifiable person, that information is treated as personal data and is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and with applicable Nigerian data protection law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation. For details on the lawful bases on which we process personal data, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and the rights available to you as a data subject, please read the Privacy Policy alongside this document.

1.5 How we notify you of changes

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, our services, or legal and regulatory requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date shown in the hero above. Where a change materially affects how we use non-essential cookies, we will also prompt you again through the cookie banner so you can review your choices. We encourage you to revisit this page periodically. A fuller summary of update practices appears in the Third Parties & Contact tab.
