The Carter Bridge

CARTER BRIDGE - one of the bridges that helped shape Lagos. Before Lagos became the massive metropolis we know today, moving between Lagos Island and the mainland depended heavily on waterways. Then came Carter Bridge. Construction of the original bridge began in the late 1890s, as Lagos was developing its railway and expanding its commercial connections. Completed in 1901, Carter Bridge became an important part of the connection between Lagos Island and Iddo, alongside the railway and tramway system. But as Lagos grew, the original bridge could no longer cope with the city's changing transport demands. A new Carter Bridge was constructed and opened in 1931, becoming another important chapter in Lagos's transportation history. 🎬 Stay tuned!
